SUMMARY

Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron may all be in their twilight year, but it’s something else that has drawn them together; their interest in unsolved murders. Once a week, every Thursday, they come together at Cooper’s Chase retirement village to try and solve the crimes that have baffled police for years.

However, when a brutal murder is carried out in their sleepy village, the Thursday Murder Club takes it upon themselves to help the police with their investigations…whether they like it or not.

THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB REVIEW

The Thursday Murder Club is a great addition to the cosy crime genre. Richard Osman writes with wit and warmth that has you racing through the pages. The characters are fun and layered without being the over-the-top, and the crime itself (no ending spoilers here) keeps evolving to keep you guessing. I only managed to guess one small thread of the very satisfying conclusion so see if you can do better than me!

The audiobook narrator, actress Lesley Manville (Maleficent, Harlots, Vera Drake) does a wonderful job of capturing individual characters. Audiobooks have been a bit of a godsend for me during lockdown for helping me chill out, and this story was the perfect balance of fun and intrigue to grab my attention without being too dark and heavy.

If you’re a fan of Midsummer Murders (but want more fun) or the Agatha Raisin series from M. C. Beaton, then Richard Osman’s is the perfect book for you.

If you enjoyed The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman, you’d love Himself by Jess Kidd.
